East of Eden.
A must-read.
A Must. Read.
I tell you, it was a book like nothing I've ever read before. Forget Dan Brown. John Steinbeck is my man now.
Upon my first read, I couldn't grasp the writing style. It was weird. Very flighty.
The book was set in the late 1800s and early 1900s. So the language is very unlike the now. I thought I'd get sick of the book but I was not. I was captivated, enthralled. It's a book that leaves a funny aftertaste.
It was a chunky book to say the least. Lugging it around to work was quite a chore. But I couldn't help it. It was THAT mesmerizing. My boss saw the book on my desk and he said he'd read it before ten thousand years ago. He said Steinback is a powerful writer. WAS a powerful writer, because he's dead now, but not before winning a Nobel. So that means it makes me a powerful reader, no? I read powerful books. Powerful macam Badang.
So now I'm starting on Vinegar Hill. All these titles were recommended by Yan's GP teacher. Excellant choices, I must say.
Go get East of Eden.
Now.
