America's next top model/the mystery behind Mysterious Skin

Tuesday, July 26, 2005

So I watched it last night.

And I tell you, I feel the same rush that I felt from the last two seasons. This time round, my favourite is Naima. So edgy and raw. Love the mohawk, baby. If I don't live in Singapore, I'd probably do some crazy shit with my hair too.
Spent last Saturday with that boy. I wanted to watch Fantastic 4 a.k.a. 'Sial ahh Empat' but Yan wanted to watch a 'smart movie'. I assumed a 'smart movie' is like a Beautiful Mind so ok... We watched Mysterious Skin at CineLeisure. It was probably the smartest film showing right now. Hoho...
I AM COMMANDING ALL OF YOU TO PLEASE CATCH IT.
It's R21 though. It's my first. So kids like Huda, sorry kid, you can't watch this yet.

'The summer I was eight years old, five hours disappeared from my life.'

Based on a novel by Scott Heim's 'Mysterious Skin: A Novel', this story is so surreal you need a strong stomach to swallow the scenes. It's about two boys who were sexually abused by a sick paedophelic bastard-of-a-coach. One turned out to be gay. The other turned out to be a confused dork who thinks that he was abducted by aliens when he was a child. I will not ruin the beauty of this film by telling you. Just watch it. Pretty twisted and sick, this story is. But it made for a good watch, no doubt. The writer Heim, and now the producer, managed to portray child abuse as it is, without being judgemental. The judgment was, ultimately, made by the readers/viewers. Now I just need to get my hands on the book to immerse myself in it.
I was digging Yan's arm the whole time watching it because I got this funky queasy feeling and it wasn't fun at all. Besides a generous helping of Joseph Gordon-Levitt's skinny white ass, the film successfully showcases minute yet vivid images of the many caprices of child abuse. I almost puked at one scene because I really couldn't take it. The bathroom scene. I felt like screaming at the whole world and I wonder how many thousands of kids in the world actually went through all these scarring abuses. Nasty, I tell you. Nasty. 'R21-mature theme', says the poster. Suddenly, I realised that I am not that mature afterall. You really need to be able to differentiate your emotions and what the producers want to get across to you. Me, mature, my ass.I left the cinema feeling awful. I thought about the film while eating, while bathing, before sleeping.
I'm still thinking about it right now...

a week later from the last

Thursday, July 21, 2005

So I've been procrastinating in updating the lowdowns of my life. Not that most would be interested anyway...
Two days ago, on the 19th, I celebrated my 1st year of being a gainfully employed Singaporean. Well ok, maybe the word shouldn't be 'celebrated'. 'Acknowledged' would be more suitable. I took a long, hard reflection on the past year and I realised that it has been quite a ride. Things, major things, happened in just that one year.
One thing's for sure: I have more white hairs than I had a year ago.
So anyhow, on that 19th, my menses decided to pay me a visit. There I was, on my 1st year of being a gainfully employed Singaporean, and I had to whine and cry and did alot of tsk-ing and swearing and clutching the tummy. Does NOT help that I ran out of Evening Primrose Oil and Panadol Menstrual.
Last Saturday, I practiced my second career as a tai-tai. Went for some traditional Javanese massage, scrub and steambath. The masseuse massaged every parts of my body. Every. Ok maybe not down there but she definitely massaged my chest. I had my eyes closed in bliss when she suddenly whipped away the towel covering my body and started doing some err... lifting massage on my two best friends. My eyes snapped open but ho00 well... It's all in the name of the Javanese spirit. I am, afterall, half Javanese. Haha...
But that boy Yan had a more traumatic story. Suffice to say that he got his best friend MANhandled. It doesn't help that his male masseuse is ahh... the soft, gentle kind. It's ok dear... You are, afterall, half Javanese too.

Wednesday night with the NCC babes was fab. Too bad Boon Chin and Farena couldn't make it. Dinner at Al-Tazzaq was delicious nak mampos. You should really check it out. Arab Street. All in light of Raihana's going-away to Germany for her attachment. I told her to remember to bring back one German moslem for me. Preferably male. Kidddiiiing~
Anyway Rai babe, hope this experience in Germany would do you good. Embrace the culture, the good and the dirt of it. Oh and don't go out at night. And oh remember the German phrase I taught you. The only German phrase I know. Here's to your life there~ *clinks glasses*
And to all, here's to an early great weekend.

that Saturday with the babes @ Regent Suite

Thursday, July 14, 2005

So this is my birthday cake, courtesy of ermm, me. Yeah I bought my own birthday cake. Well Eli brought it, but I ermm... Paid for it hahahah...
Buncha crazy girls who first saw a suite. One of the few pictures that I'm allowed to show cos they're still covered. Hehehe...Ok a more decent and proper (note the italics) of us again. Macam wanitas Melayu terakhir ini tiga-tiga nii... Aku jer tak. Tengok tu seluar pun singkat. HAHAHAOk my cake, wearing my new necklace from Huda and Dayana. It's red. I very the luuurrvvee... Ahhh... Masque application by Dayang Leyana. And afterwards, massage from head to toe by Masseuse Juliarti. Bliss feast. Picture not included cos it was very obscene. (Think of Ju sitting on top of my back. That's some funky shit lah). Hohoho...
We ate and talked and danced and jumped on the expensive Regent beds. Hopefully the springs are still working okay. Burned beautifuls candles and light up some aromatherapy sticks. Finished up the free Dilmah teas in the special Dilmah box and asked for more sugar and cream. And I just realised like NOW. That I forgot to tip that guy who brought up the cream and sugar. He must be thinking "Taik hidong masin ah ini budak pompuan. Duduk jer kat suite tapi tips tarak". Cos he looks like the kind who would say 'tarak' instead of 'takder'.
Used BATHROBES after showering. Please lah ehh... Kita macam setep mana peh tai-tai. You tell me, do you wear bathrobes after showering at home?? No right?? But that Saturday was an exception. Bathrobes lah... Fuzzy slippers all... Semua benda free bedal jer lah!
Then the favourite Girls Bonding Night. Not the kinky bonding can. Sorry to disappoint. But the actual talk session. And I agree totally that they shall remain in the many, many walls of that suite. I wished the night would go on forever. I was willing my sleepy eyes to stay open, girls, I swear. But I couldn't help it. Too much alcohol the day before. Cheybah.
Wanted to swing by Hard Rock that night and leave my girls for awhile while I go boogey but my party friend Yana met with an accident and I didn't have anyone to go with so that idea was burnt. I thought I should get drunk on Punch again but I suppose Peach Tea and Dilmah sufficed. Oh and I kept farting the whole night. Wtf. Must be the massage from Ju. She's so skinny and small but I swear she has the most magical fingers, I tell you. I kept trying to run away inconspicuously from the group to fart away the air, but of course they saw. But it's those kinda odourless flatulents, so its okay. Hahaha...
It was a blast, wasn't it girls? Wish more had come. But I was happy Eli, Ju, Ratna, Leyana and Huda came. Couldn't ask for more, really. Thanks Huda for the CDs. Definitely livened up the atmosphere. Thanks Ju, Ley and Nana for the food. And thanks Eli for ermm... Carrying the cake. Thanks yous for the company!
Thanks to all the well-wishes from all yous well-wishers. Even from those that I've probably only spoken to twice in all my life. It was a nice surprise. Appreciated.
But above all, thanks Yan for everything. You made this possible. I appreciate everything, sweetheart @>;----

Friday, July 08, 2005

I really can't wait for tomorrow!

Pictures will be uploaded (hopefully, if Eli's kind and free enough) and news updated.

Ok quick one: catch War of the Worlds. I almost peed in my pants, especially the scene under the basement. Some funky shit, that one. Imagine some metal freakazoid hunting us down. What the hell right...

Be meeting the boyfriend and his errm extended family for his sister's birthday dinner later. Ok time to pee in my pants again. Long sleeves top. Check. Long pants. Check. Make-up. Check.

My mum: Awin, later you go dinner with Yan's family?

Me: Yah...

My mum: Abeh kau pakai baju apa tuu... Nampak pusat takk..???

Me: Tak lah!

My mum: Kau betul-betul sikit eh Win... Jangan tak senonoh-senonoh pakainya tuu... Nanti ibu maluu...

Me: Tak lah! Sopan lah orang pakai... Baju panjang, hitam pulak tuu... Seluar panjang all, jangan takut... Apa nii... Asal stress...

My mum: Yelaahh... Nanti orang ingat anak dara aku sorang ni tak senonohhh... (with penuh perasan). Confirm eh tak nampak pusat ehh... (that kinda scary warning tone)

Me: Yelah sopan lah very the sopann.... (controlling my laughter)

Alamak now she just made me stress nak mampos cann...

July / Vo-gue

Friday, July 01, 2005

It is July finally.
For those not in the know what's up with July, I direct your attention to the middle panel of this page, third line. There you go... Hehe hoho...
Will be meeting up with the Queens and the Princesses and another mystery guy courtesy of Princess Dayana. Then ermm maybe meeting that boy and that boy's boyfriend, B. I should just refer to Yan and B as 'that b' and 'that b's b B'. Geddit? See lah this is what I do when I'm stressed. Anyway, sounds like it's gonna be a big happy family later.
Talking about one big happy family, remembered this convo I had with Queen Eli earlier on. Sumthn like this:
Eli: Eh macam banyak orang eh nak jumpa kita... Macam vo-GUE (pronounced as "giu")
I: A'ah seyy... Kenapa ni kita vo-GUE sangat nii... Aku heran lahh..
Eli: Aku pun tak tau kenapa lahh...
Why do I mention this? Because Yan's friend said that -quote- 'Awin and friends are so vogue, I'm afraid of approaching them and striking up a conversation' -unquote-
Why sey!?? We are nice people lah seriously... Really, really... I mean, we may look all snobbish and uppity-up but really, we're GENERALLY nice.So if you see us outside, say Hi lahh... Don't shy. What seyy...
(Ok, do I sound minah-ish in this particular entry, or what?)
